Overview

Located in the vibrant heart of Hawthorn, Laksa Garden brings an authentic slice of Malaysian cuisine to Melbourne’s diverse food scene. Tucked away on Glenferrie Road, this unassuming restaurant invites diners to explore a rich array of traditional dishes centered around laksa, a beloved Malaysian noodle soup. The star here is undoubtedly the Combination Laksa, praised by many for its rich, aromatic coconut broth that balances spice and creaminess with finesse. It’s a dish that captures the essence of Malaysian comfort food—layered, fragrant, and deeply satisfying.

Beyond laksa, Laksa Garden offers a thoughtful menu variety that encompasses everything from the savory aroma of Chicken Laksa to the visually intriguing Coconut Butterfly Pea Rice, a stunning blue-hued side that surprises with its subtle coconut fragrance, harmonizing beautifully with robust curries. For those craving a snack or small bite, the Pan-fried Pork and Chive Dumplings and Satay Chicken Skewers highlight the restaurant’s dedication to traditional flavors crafted with care.

The dining experience at Laksa Garden is straightforward and welcoming, with a casual atmosphere ideal for groups and families alike. The space allows for comfortable seating without overwhelming decor, focusing attention on the food itself. Service has received commendations for its attentiveness, highlighted by a thoughtful staff member who went the extra mile to assist a customer in an unexpected way.

While some dishes like the fried kway teow may lean toward oily, and there’s a noted upcharge for chili that surprises some patrons familiar with Malaysian eateries, these minor quirks don’t overshadow the overall quality and authenticity that Laksa Garden brings to the table. Portions are generous and priced fairly, making it a practical choice for both a casual lunch or a hearty dinner.

Laksa Garden appeals especially to lovers of Malaysian cuisine and those looking to dive into authentic flavors without venturing far from home. Its combination of classic comfort dishes and unique specialties provides a culinary adventure that respects tradition while offering something fresh in Melbourne’s restaurant landscape.

Didn't expect to see blue coconut rice with curry on the menu which was surprisingly good. The coconut taste was not too overpowering. The laksa was not bad too but would have liked it to be less thick and a bit more red in colour and spicy.

A Malaysian eatery in the heart of Glenferrie, Laksa Garden offers a wide selection of classic Malaysian dishes. I found the pickle fish head vermicelli in soup a bit on the bland side, and my partner's fried kuay teow was also quite oily. We were also surprised the restaurant charges an extra $1 for chilli when it's a standard free condiment in many Malaysian restaurants. Update: we gave Laksa Garden another try and this time, ordered the Combination Laksa ($16.80) and the Hainanese Chicken Rice ($16.80). The Laksa is definitely the dish to try with its rich, aromatic coconut broth. A shout-out to the wonderful young lady staff member who chased us across the road to Coles to return our shopping bag that we left behind.

This was the best laksa I’ve had in Melbourne. This little laksa place lives up to the name. I got the combination laksa and my partner got a stir fried noodles and she was quite happy with it too. Kudos to the chef. A must try for any laksa lovers. We will be coming back to Laksa Garden for more mouthwatering food.

Walked in with a group of 6 and we were able to get a table easily at 6pm on a Friday night. Once ordered, the food came out reasonably fast. Tasted great and large portion sizes too for fair prices.

Stumbled across Laksa Garden after the place I wanted to get lunch was closed. Perfect for lunch on a winter's day – the Chicken Laksa was delicious. The only minor downside was a lot of chicken pieces still had tendons on. I'd go back!

My friend chose this spot to experiment as it's close to her work and we were pleasantly surprised. I was quickly taken to the courtyard as the front was full. The menu had a range of Laksas and traditional Malaysian fare but we couldn't go past their namesake. My soft shell crab Laksa was lip smacking good because the broth was so creamy with coconut milk/cream. The crab was crunchy, the noodles chewy but tender, and the eggplant soaked up the flavours and disintegrated in the mouth. My friend also enjoyed her Combination Laksa. There was only one other table in the courtyard; the heater was off and the air was chilly - not so thoughtful in the middle of winter. Conclusion: delicious Laksas, more considerate service would've got more stars.

Nice location in Glenferrie but a bit hard to find a car park Very good atmosphere good service We ordered Hainanese Chicken rice, Har mee noodles soup and Roti with satay sauce. There are not a lot of Laksa options (even the restaurant name is Laksa garden ) We didn’t wait too long to get the food, the food tasted not bad

I think they might have changed ownership? Food used to be fairly priced, but still very delicious. It stinks a little at the back of the restaurant on the way to the restroom, perhaps cleaning the area would make the overall dining experience better.
